Frequently Asked Questions
- Why the co-opticon?
Robotic webcameras with pan, tilt, and zoom controls are now commercially available and are being installed in
dozens of
locations around the world. In these systems, the camera parameters can be remotely adjusted by
viewers via the Internet to observe details in the scene. Current control methods restrict control to one user at a time; users have to
wait in a queue for their turn to operate the camera. Here we present the co-opticon, a new approach that eliminates the queue and allows
many users to share control of the robotic camera simultaneously.
-
Will it work on my computer?
Certainly if you're using Microsoft Windows with Internet Explorer.
If you get a blank screen after you login, please first click
here to install Java plugin on your computer. Please follow the
instructions given by SUN's website for
different web browsers.
The co-opticon also works fine with Mac OS X with proper java plug-in.
If you have a dial-up connection with less than 56Kbps Modem, the system is
not able to function properly. We recommend 1Mbps or above for best
performance.
We are working on providing support for Linux systems but the applet currently has compatibility problem with
the Java plug-in on
Netscape, Galleon, Mozilla, and Bluefish under Linux.

How do I get
my customized color settings? Can I change my color settings latter?
You need to be a registered user. The registration
page will ask you to choose a color. We are working on CGI scripts that
allow registered users to change their password or color settings. For now,
please use our feedback page to inform us the change
you want to make (i.e. RGB of the new color settings).

I am a
registered user, but I forgot my password. How do I get my password back?
Please click here
to retrieve your password.
